I had a terrible night of sleep last night. And today? I’m groggy as all heck.

And the guy across the coworking space from me is yawning at 1:30pm.

Everyone seems tired these days, and studies and surveys seem to indicate the same. The honest truth is if you live in America, you’re likely sleep deprived.

It’s a great feeling to know you’re probably not alone, right? But sadly, chronic sleep deprivation can have drastic effects on your overall health, ranging from obesity and cardiovascular disease to anxiety and depression.

Conversely, regularly getting enough sleep means you’re sick less often, less stressed, and more engaged and creative in the work you do.

Of course, not everyone can achieve a perfect eight hours of sleep a night (like the parents of a new baby), but as I like to think it’s the trend that matters.

So, what trend are you on? Are you trending toward chronic sleep deprivation? Or are you building toward a healthy sleep habit?

If you’re on the wrong track, remember you can change today. Here’s one quick action you can put into place.

ACT: Aim to go to bed at the same time every night for a week.
